Saudi Arabia
Saudi Arabia has taken a cautious line on Bitcoin: in 2018 the central bank and the capital-market regulator warned that trading in virtual currencies was illegal and barred banks from processing crypto transactions. The riyal, pegged to the US dollar, is the only legal tender. Interest in digital assets has grown anyway, and the kingdom has explored blockchain and central-bank digital currency projects alongside the UAE. More recently, officials have signalled they are studying how to regulate digital assets rather than ignore them. Riyadh and Jeddah host a small, low-key Bitcoin community.
