Kyrgyzstan has taken a relatively open approach to Bitcoin, passing a Virtual Assets Law in 2022 that established licensing for exchanges and providers. Bitcoin is legal, but not legal tender, and the som remains the official currency. The financial regulator oversees licensed platforms, and cheap hydropower has made the country attractive for mining. Adoption remains small and concentrated around Bishkek.
