Algeria has one of the strictest stances in the world: a 2018 finance law banned the purchase, sale and use of virtual currencies, and later rules extended the prohibition to mining and promotion. The Algerian dinar is the only legal tender. Authorities cite currency controls and anti-money-laundering concerns, and enforcement has kept formal adoption minimal, though interest and small peer-to-peer flows persist.
