Bulgaria

Bulgaria made headlines in 2017 when authorities seized roughly 200,000 bitcoins from an organised-crime network—one of the largest government bitcoin hauls ever. Bitcoin is legal, but not legal tender. The country applies a flat 10% income tax, and crypto gains are taxed at that rate, making it one of the lighter regimes in the EU. Providers are supervised under anti-money-laundering rules and, increasingly, EU-wide MiCA. Sofia and Plovdiv host meetups and a small but active Bitcoin community.
