Venezuela

Venezuela has become one of Latin America's biggest Bitcoin users, as years of hyperinflation and currency controls pushed people to sats as a way to save and receive remittances. Bitcoin is legal, but not legal tender. Policy has been contradictory: the state launched its own oil-backed Petro token in 2018 and briefly encouraged mining, only to dismantle it in 2024 and crack down on mining farms amid a severe electricity crisis. Regulation has been unstable since the country's crypto watchdog was thrown into turmoil in 2023. Even so, peer-to-peer trading and community meetups in Caracas and beyond keep bitcoin in daily use. Use this map to find the Venezuelan places where you can spend sats.
