Malta
Malta has long courted digital-asset businesses, and in 2018 it passed one of the EU's first licensing regimes for crypto service providers, supervised by the MFSA. Bitcoin is legal, but not legal tender, and the euro remains the official currency. The island attracted major exchanges and, under EU-wide MiCA, has continued to license providers. For individuals, Malta generally does not tax capital gains on bitcoin, though regular trading can be treated as income.
