Cambodia's central bank barred banks from handling crypto in 2018 and has long taken a cautious line, while launching its own national payment system, Bakong. Bitcoin is not legal tender, and the riel remains the official currency. Officials have been drafting a regulatory framework, and enforcement has focused on illicit operations; legitimate use remains limited and largely peer-to-peer.
