Greece

Bitcoin first drew wide attention in Greece during the financial crisis of the mid-2010s, when capital controls led many to look for alternatives to the banking system. Bitcoin is legal, but not legal tender, and the euro remains the official currency. Gains on bitcoin are taxed at 15% for individuals, and providers must register with the authorities for anti-money-laundering supervision as EU-wide MiCA rules apply. Athens and Thessaloniki host meetups and a small but growing set of bitcoin-accepting businesses. Use this map to find the Greek places where you can spend sats.
