Brazil
Brazil is Latin America's largest Bitcoin market and home to its first bitcoin ETF, launched in 2021. Bitcoin is legal, though not legal tender, and since 2022 it has been recognised as a virtual asset under a national framework that puts the central bank in charge of licensing service providers. The use cases are strong in a country with a large unbanked population and expensive remittances: peer-to-peer trading and exchanges are widely used, and some municipal governments, including Rio de Janeiro, have explored accepting bitcoin for taxes and holding it in public reserves. From São Paulo to Rio and Florianópolis, meetups and bitcoin-accepting merchants keep the scene growing. Use this map to find the Brazilian places where you can spend sats.
